Volvo XC60 D5 and Swift

Tom Cillier reviewed on 05 August 2023 a Volvo XC60 D5 (205 PS/151 Kw, Year: 2009 - 2012) with a Swift Challenger 560 of n.a. kg.

I've been towing with XX60 D5 for just over a year and find it an extremely capable SUV.
Once on the road I try and keep it in 6th gear and it eats the miles. Great car extremely comfortable

Volvo XC60 D4 AWD aut. and Eriba

Kam reviewed on 13 February 2023 a Volvo XC60 D4 AWD aut. (190 PS/140 Kw, Year: 2017 - 2019) with a Eriba Touring Troll 550 of n.a. kg.

I have owned my XC60 D4 AWD auto since new. The car is now 5 years old and has 66000 on the clock.

The car tows an Eriba 550GT and it really is effortless. I’ve done lots of long journeys including Scotland, Southern France, Norfolk and Wales. The journey is always relaxing and safe. I’ve even towed in deep snow without issue and the AWD has helped me in muddy fields when other cars have had to be towed out with a tractor.

The only downside is the cost of a new XC60. I’ll be looking to change when my car hits 100000 miles and new Volvos are now eye wateringly expensive!

Volvo XC60 D4 AWD aut. and Lunar

Darren reviewed on 21 August 2021 a Volvo XC60 D4 AWD aut. (190 PS/140 Kw, Year: 2017 - 2019) with a Lunar Clubman SE of n.a. kg.

Love it! don't need to say anymore.
I will because I'm sure "love it" would not be to everyone taste.
We picked our XC60 D4 (polestar tuned) second hand up around 3 months ago, we have now managed 4 trips away last being to Cornwall, (500 mile round trip) and we tow a 2017 clubman SE single axle.
The car tows as if the van wasn't attached, no issues so far and have towed approx 1000 miles.
Power: More than enough! had the need to try it coming back on our last trip, slight miss judgement on my part :-) when pulling out of a layby on a up hill stretch of road, the car is AWD, however didn't squat and pulled like a stream train.
Motorway: This is the place we appreciate it most (moving from a Honda CRV) the Volvo just holds the road as if stuck to it, cruise control 60mph up and down hill the needle doesn't move.
Gearbox: lazy! in comfort or echo the box is so lazy maybe to much, always moving up and jumping down 2 gears at a time, polestar mode (sport) much more the way I like it. However this is very personal and each to there own.
Fuel MPG: OK to be honest the car has only done 20K and most diesel engines I've had prior need 30-40K on them before the economy really kicks in, that being said cruising it will do 29-31mpg, moving away or around town does drop to 23-26mpg clearly this is towing!
Comfort: Amazing, drive for 4 hours jump out like you have just popped down the shops, my wife and I both struggle with back problem, the Honda would kill my back whilst driving, forcing me to stop after 1 hour or maybe 2 on a good day, However the Volvo is supportive and so comfortable.
Overall: The Volvo is SO relaxing to drive, the hole car is clearly built for this and all of my family have noticed, its quite at all speeds but mostly noticeable on the motorway you can still talk in a soft voice and I can hear my two children talking in the back, the suspension (none air) just soaks up 90% of the roads junk!
If you are thinking of buying one STOP thinking and do it.

Volvo XC60 B4 and Swift

Lee Mogano reviewed on 28 July 2020 a Volvo XC60 B4 (211 PS/155 Kw, Year: 2020 - 2022) with a Swift Conqueror 630 of 1770 kg.

Correction to my last review which qoted the D4 engine. I have been searching for a towing review of the B4D to no avail. So decided to write one of my own. This car is a superb towing vehicle. With the upgraded B4D engine (197 bhp and 420Nm torque, which happens to be the same figures as the mark 1 2014 XC90 which we had previously) with the additional 14hp and 40Nm torque available when pulling away and accelerating, care of the 10KW electric motor/generator it has more than enough grunt to pull our twin axle Caravan. With all the added safety features that Volvo put into this car, why would you want anything else. A lovely, safe and strong car. Well done Volvo!

Towing caravan 1465kg (about 3000 miles ) clutch failed before 20000 miles. Within 5000 miles ( towing approx 2000 miles ) clutch trouble again. Xc60 2.4 d5 manual. Supposed to be able to tow 1800kg. Don't buy one

Volvo XC60 D5 (205hp) is great towing Bailey Cadiz 111 (1550kg - uprated). Very stable, rarely need to change out of 6th gear on motorways and around 25-27mpg - we have 2 kids, dog and 4 bikes on roof.

Absolutely bloody mavellous, I have adaptive cruise control on mine and for motorways it is brilliant, loads of low down power and as mine is manual you don't have to change gear very often on the open road, best tow car I have ever had and after 43 years towing I have found the ideal towcar

The Volvo xc60 d4 is an excellent tow car the torque on this car is first class it just hangs in, mine is a manual box but I don't have to change gear very often. I would recommend this car as a tow car to anyone who wants a awd car with bags of oomph

I have driven this combination approx 8,000 miles around Europe. Every aspect of the towing experience has been excellent including steep incline starts. No snaking or other sideway movements on motorways. Fuel consumption average 26 - 27 mpg.

I have found my 2009 Volvo XC60 2.4 diesel (2 wheel drive) to be an excellent car solo and towing my Lunar Lexon EB. The engine is powerful and has plenty of torque. The combination is very stable.

I cannot tell you how pleased I am with this outfit. The Volvo has plenty of muscle, and it's 'city safety' and 'trailer stability assist' features give added confidence. It converts from saloon to cavernous estate in seconds, and tows my Lunar Clubman CK brilliantly, giving me the best tow experience in 27 years of caravanning. Most of all, the XC60 is sooo comfortable. We have just completed the Caravan Club 2009 Grand Tour across cetral Europe to Slovenia and back, 2,200 towed miles. I cannot praise the performance of the outfit too highly, and recommend it to all.
