Weight

  • The towing limit of the Volvo is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, you will need a B+E (or B96) driving license.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 64%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 71%.
  • The chance of snaking is small even at higher speeds.
  • Recommended noseweight is 75 kg.
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 204 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is very good.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Mike Steer reviewed a Volvo XC60 D5 aut.:

"I cannot tell you how pleased I am with this outfit. The Volvo has plenty of muscle, and it's 'city safety' and 'trailer stability assist' features give added confidence. It converts from saloon to cavernous estate in seconds, and tows my Lunar Clubman CK brilliantly, giving me the best tow experience in 27 years of caravanning. Most of all, the XC60 is sooo comfortable. We have just completed the Caravan Club 2009 Grand Tour across cetral Europe to Slovenia and back, 2,200 towed miles. I cannot praise the performance of the outfit too highly, and recommend it to all."
