Weight

The Mitsubishi Pajero Pinin 2.0 Gdi with a Abbey GTS 215 with an actual weight of 1360 kg is in general a good match and suitable for all journeys on all kinds of roads.

The motor preformance of the Mitsubishi is in general more than sufficient. And also the weight of the Abbey with a User Payload (176 kg in the caravan and 200 kg in the car including passengers), is not too heavy, if the caravan is well loaded.

Performance

Weight

  • The towing limit of the Mitsubishi is sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • The car is too heavily loaded.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 76%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 86%.
  • There is a small chance of snaking at higher speeds, strong side winds and thoughtless driving. Even if the combination normally feels stable, the forces by deflection side to side are great at high speed. For drivers with knowledge of, and experience in driving a caravan it is safe to drive, but proper and careful loading is still important! An electronic stability system in the car and / or on the caravan is worth considering.
  • Recommended noseweight is 75 kg.
  • Safe speed up to 56 mph (90 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 154 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is more than sufficient.
  • If the caravan is well loaded safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

rodger reviewed a Mitsubishi Pajero Pinin 2.0 Gdi:

"Although this review is for a Abbey GT 214 1989 model the weight and dimensions are the about same as the GT 215.
We took the caravan to Welshpool for a weekend from Sheffield. I had no trouble at all with towing and was able to use 5th gear for 85/95% of the time. We were carrying two small gas bottles(both full) and a full awning with steel poles. On the A38/M6/M54 we travelled at 60mph most of the time."
