Weight

  • The towing limit of the Volkswagen is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, you will need a B+E driving license.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 54%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 59%.
  • The chance of snaking is small even at higher speeds.
  • Recommended noseweight is 75 kg.
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 247 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is good.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Claus Poulsen reviewed a Volkswagen T5 (Seikel) Multivan 2.5 TDI:

"My experience with my Multivan 2.5 tdi and my Knaus 550 FSK is that there is enough power in all situations. I even run the 6th gear most time, and only when speed in below 80 km/h I must go lower. This only happens on very steep roads such as in the Kassels in mid Germany and in the Alps. The max speed is > 130 km/h (only tried this once), and there is still power reserve to go faster – if you have the curage. I never sell this car  "
