Weight

The Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0 4WD aut. with a Ace Award Morningstar with an actual weight of 1409 kg is in general a good match and suitable for all journeys on all kinds of roads.

The motor preformance of the Mitsubishi is in general more than sufficient. And also the weight of the Ace with a normally distributed User Payload (200 kg in the caravan and 200 kg in the car including passengers), is not too heavy, if the caravan is well loaded.

Weight

  • The towing limit of the Mitsubishi is sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, you will need a B+E (or B96) driving license.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 79%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 90%.
  • There is a small chance of snaking at higher speeds, strong side winds and thoughtless driving. Even if the combination normally feels stable, the forces by deflection side to side are great at high speed. For drivers with knowledge of, and experience in driving a caravan it is safe to drive, but proper and careful loading is still important! An electronic stability system in the car and / or on the caravan is worth considering.
  • Recommended noseweight is 80 kg.
  • Safe speed up to 56 mph (90 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 145 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is more than sufficient.
  • If the caravan is well loaded safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Sergey reviewed a Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0 4WD aut.:

"Then I use cruise control, it's nessesery to switch on manual mode to reduce transmission.

Fairly - high fuel consumption. My motor-oil drains more intensively. The tractor is heavy. But all the specified parameters in the calculator confirm reality. On a flat road the cruise holds 2.4 thousand rpm, without a caravan it is 1.5 thousand rpm. Fuel consumption is 14.5 liters per 1000 km, compared to 9 liters without a trailer. The oil also eats well in the engine.

Most of all, i'm worry about variator (CTV), that it will quickly break under such loads. But since the manufacturer says that you can tow a caravan up to 1600 kg, why not.

In terms of speed, it is comfortable to drive 80-85 km/h. More than 90 is no longer comfortable."
