Weight

  • The towing limit of the Hyundai is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, you will need a B+E driving license.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 64%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 70%.
  • The chance of snaking is relatively small at normal speed, if the caravan is well loaded.
  • Recommended noseweight is 80 kg.
  • Safe speed up to 62 mph (100 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 198 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is good.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Greg reviewed a Hyundai H-1 2.5 CRDi:

"Just completed 3month trip to South of Spain and back in new car, 3000 miles towed 200 solo averaged 24.5 miles per gallon. Away three months with canoe, 2 cycles, awning, kitchen tent etc etc. so pretty fully loaded car and van. Excellent stability, fantastic space and if you don,t watch the speed it easly climbs to 70mph. Tried to cruise around 56/57 to conserve fuel and in consideration of a new engine, pulls in top on most motorway inclines, only dropping to 4th in the mountains. Completed similar trip at begining of year in a v8 petrol merc, not as stable, with less gear and averaged 14.5 miles per gallon. May not have all the fancy bits, but a really good tow car if you like to take either a family or all your toys with you. "
