Weight

  • The towing limit of the Audi is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, you will need a B+E (or B96) driving license.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 63%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 69%.
  • The chance of snaking is small even at higher speeds.
  • Recommended noseweight is 80 kg.
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 208 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is very good.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

User Reviews

John Fulelr reviewed a Audi A8 4.2 TDI Quattro:

"Whilst it may loose out on the last 5% of stability compared to my previous Touareg, it is still vastly more stable than either my old Range Rover or Discovery.
The thing that really stands out thogh is the torque: There is so much pulling power that it will pull up pretty much any incline at less than 2000rpm in 6th gear. This flexability allows frequent use of cruise control making for an even more relaxed towing experience.
The final coupe-de-grace is an easy 23mpg with the van behind! Awesome!!"
