Weight

The Nissan Qashqai 1.5 dCi with a Standaard Caravan with an actual weight of 1200 kg is in general a good match and suitable for all journeys on all kinds of roads.

The motor preformance of the Nissan is in general more than sufficient. And also the weight of the Standaard Caravan with a normally distributed User Payload (200 kg in the caravan and 200 kg in the car including passengers), is very good.

Actual Weights

Performance

Weight

  • The towing limit of the Nissan is sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, a B driving license is enough.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 70%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 81%.
  • The chance of snaking is relatively small at normal speed, if the caravan is well loaded.
  • Recommended noseweight is 70 kg.
  • Safe speed up to 62 mph (100 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 185 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is more than sufficient.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

mr maddock reviewed a Nissan Qashqai 1.5 dCi:

"iv had the 1.5 cdi for 2years now,and have found the seating in the qash not very suppourting now finding it as a lot of roll on corners and a bouncey ride more solo than towing i have tried many ways to over come this,it helps if you load the boot well and have a good down load as for solo less weight more bounce and roll,i have at times felt qwite sick, haveing said all that it dose have good pulling power and nice gear change and dose give very good mpg around 36 towing there are good points to the qash as for ride not for me i thing the prob comes from the car being hight and more like jeep if you can put up with the ride its not a bad tow car i dont use it much for towing more solo and the ride is worse."
