Weight

  • The towing limit of the Volkswagen is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, you will need a B+E (or B96) driving license.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 67%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 75%.
  • The chance of snaking is small even at higher speeds.
  • Recommended noseweight is 75 kg.
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 200 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is good.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Aquilotto reviewed a Volkswagen Touran 2.0 TDI aut.:

"I like this outfit. Always have good traction on roads. Even on snow (with snow tyres) I didn't have problems, on "normal" roads, not too steep.
Consumption at 95 km/h in 6th gear (dsg automatic gear), at 2000 rpm is 9,5-10 kms/liter. If the caravan is well balanced/charged really good stability up to 110 km/h. The towball weight allowed by the car is 75 kg, but my caravan is 95-100 kg, even when not charged."
