Weight

  • The towing limit of the Honda is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, a B driving license is enough.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 57%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 65%.
  • The chance of snaking is small even at higher speeds.
  • Recommended noseweight is 60 kg.
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 249 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is more than sufficient.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Keith reviewed a Honda Accord 2.0:

"Towed all the way from Carlisle to the East of the Netherlands and back again no problem. Cruises along at 60mph in 5th until you hit a real hill then a drop into 3rd is usually needed. It is true that a diesel would probably mean a few less gear changes but the 2.0 petrol does fine. Mpg suffers a bit down to 25mpg from the usual 35mpg. On a separate trip round Scotland the engine had to be revved on really steep hills but hill starts were never an issue. It's probably not the car I would choose but as it was the car I had it did the job well."
