Weight

  • The towing limit of the Honda is sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • The car is too heavily loaded.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 72%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 82%.
  • The chance of snaking is relatively small at normal speed, if the caravan is well loaded.
  • Recommended noseweight is 70 kg.
  • Safe speed up to 62 mph (100 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 178 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is sufficient.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Dave Worley reviewed a Honda Accord 1.8i:

"Novice caravanners towing an old ABI Award Tristar that was donated to us. Easy enough to pull on the flat but hard work on the hills having to change down a lot. The VTEC engine only really gets going at >4000rpm which makes for slow getaways from junctions. Things start to get warm after more than 2 hours driving! Have to stick to flatter parts of the country close to home but still having some great holidays. When the caravan wears out I will change the car for a turbo-diesel!"
