Weight

  • The towing limit of the Citroen is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, a B driving license is enough.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 63%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is 71%.
  • The chance of snaking is small even at higher speeds.
  • Recommended noseweight is 70 kg.
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 218 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is fairly good.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

DaveK reviewed a Citroen C5 Berline 2.0 HDi:

"Paid £8,500 for 2005 Exclusive(hdi 136) in 2008. 17,000 miles up then, now 48,000. Towed all over UK, France and Spain. Never missed a beat. Had dpf removed and ecu tweaked-to stop pollution warnings and eolys silliness. 50mpg solo, 29 to 32 towing.Replaced the original (duff) Michelin tyres at 20,000 miles due to tread separation and perished walls and was allowed 60% off cost. Major service consists of oil and filters, about £50. Self levelling suspension great for caravanners. Comfortable, reliable and powerful enough with all the toys.£22,000 new, value now about £2,000.Passed MoT every year, no probs. Has cost me tyres, two sidelight bulbs, recent battery at £71, brake pads and front discs."
