The Saab 9-3 sport sedan 1.9 TiD 8v with a Lunar Zenith 5 with an actual weight of 1205 kg is in general a good match and suitable for all journeys on all kinds of roads.

Weight

  • The towing limit of the Saab is more than sufficient (check this in your vehicle documents).
  • If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, a B driving license is enough.
  • Weight ratio between the laden caravan and the loaded car is 68%. Common in the UK: the weight ratio between the laden caravan and the kerbweight of the car is INF%.
  • The chance of snaking is relatively small at normal speed, if the caravan is well loaded.
  • Recommended noseweight is 70 kg.
  • Safe speed up to 62 mph (100 km/h).
  • Stability and safety score to compare is 192 points.

If the caravan starts to snake you should reduce your speed and slow down directly! Lift your feet off the accelerator and brake gradually. Hold the steering wheel into a fixed position.

Conclusion

  • Performance is fairly good.
  • Safe driving is possible.
  • It's a perfect match!

Influence of User Payload on stability

Weight distribution and noseweight are vital in obtaining a stable caravan.

Distribute the User Payload by yourself in the caravan and the car and then find out the stability rating of your loading configuration.

User Reviews

Andrew Q Johnson reviewed a Saab 9-3 sport sedan 1.9 TiD 8v:

"I bought the zenith in june this year and have towed with it almost every weekend and also for our two week holiday in August. The Saab pulls the van no problem in fact there are times when motorway driving you forgat that the van is on! Using 6th gear is no problem on level or slight gradients. Fuel consumption is around the 32mpg mark . The only drawback is due to the car being a sport model it is low at the back when towing so care is need when going over speed bumps."
