BMW X5 - 3.0d aut. with a Knaus

Luis Oliveira reviewed a BMW X5 - 3.0d aut. (160 Kw/214 bhp). Modelyear: october 2003 - january 2007) and a Knaus Sudwind 400 FD of 1200 kg.

The towing capability for this outfit is:
= 58%* = 126 km/u = 56%

first of all, congratulations on your valuable site. Very helpful.
My personal experience of driving this outfit (BMW X5 3.0d + Knaus Sudwind 400FD) is that most of the times I have to keep control not to go over 120/139 Kph.
Never had a problem of caravan trying to get out of control.
Car is fitted with dettachable factory mounted towball and I was told that when this is ordered the car comes with a built-in program to automatically compensate for odd behaviours from the caravan. However I never felt that such a system kicked in.
Regards

BMW X5 - 3.0d aut. with a Sterling

ALAN BERRIMAN reviewed a BMW X5 - 3.0d aut. (160 Kw/214 bhp). Modelyear: october 2003 - january 2007) and a Sterling Elite Explorer TA of 1732 kg.

The towing capability for this outfit is:
= 80%* = 125 km/u = 49%

This is an excellent outfit comparison site.
I have had my X5 3.0d Sport super chipped, it now produces approx 265bhp and nearly 600NM of torque - well worth the money (£500)!
My van is a 2009 and fitted with the latest shock absorbers and ATC.
I must say the X5 hauls nearly 1,900kg of caravan with ease and grace. It's very very stable at high speed to a point you forget it's on the back as the speedo creeps well above the allowed speed limit without realising -oops!
I think the van shockers have made a real big difference too, compared to my previous van 2006 Elddis Crusader it feels much more stable.
Thanks and regards.

BMW X5 - 3.0i aut. with a Swift

wayne hughes reviewed a BMW X5 - 3.0i aut. (170 Kw/228 bhp). Modelyear: october 2003 - january 2007) and a Swift Conqueror 580 of 1527 kg.

The towing capability for this outfit is:
= 74%* = 122 km/u = 20%

the x5 tows the van as if its not even there, powers up hills and easily accelerates to overtake if needed but beware expect an average mpg of around 12-14 miles but other than that brilliant .

BMW X5 - 4.4i aut. with a Abbey

Darren reviewed a BMW X5 - 4.4i aut. (235 Kw/315 bhp). Modelyear: october 2003 - january 2007) and a Abbey Spectrum 620 of 1657 kg.

The towing capability for this outfit is:
= 77%* = 144 km/u = 40%

I've recently had our x5 fitted with the detachable tow bar and been away a few times now a brilliant car to tow with, as stated by many others you have to remember the caravan is still there as for fuel economy will it made little difference to the 19 mpg i get anyway around town. A very smooth ride kids loved the dvds and play station

BMW X5 II - 3.0d aut. [7-seats] with a Sterling

Ray Roberts reviewed a BMW X5 II - 3.0d aut. [7-seats] (173 Kw/232 bhp). Modelyear: january 2007 - march 2010) and a Sterling Elite Explorer TA of 1732 kg.

The towing capability for this outfit is:
= 76%* = 124 km/u = 45%

An excellent Tow Vehicle, with exceptional levels of comfort which makes long journeys a pleasure. With 235 through bread German Horses under the bonnet it makes towing even an 1800 kg Caravan seem quite effortless. Whilst like say a Land Rover, it’s not a renowned for it’s off road ability, contrary to popular belief it does cope with damp grass so it will survive most Caravan Parks.

BMW X5 II - 3.0d aut. [7-seats] with a Sterling

s makin reviewed a BMW X5 II - 3.0d aut. [7-seats] (173 Kw/232 bhp). Modelyear: january 2007 - march 2010) and a Sterling Elite Explorer TA of 1732 kg.

The towing capability for this outfit is:
= 76%* = 124 km/u = 45%

superb towing with no deviation even with passing coaches. 24mpg towing all over UK and to med in spain. Can highly recommend both x5 o.0d se and sterling explorer. Recommend 18in. wheels and all weather run flats on x5 due to any relacement tyres only £180 as against £300 to £420 on 20 in wheels and you are better prepared for winter and any mud.

BMW X5 II - 3.0sd aut. [5-seats] with a Swift

frank reviewed a BMW X5 II - 3.0sd aut. [5-seats] (210 Kw/281 bhp). Modelyear: september 2007 - march 2010) and a Swift Challenger 560 of 1493 kg.

The towing capability for this outfit is:
= 83%* = 137 km/u = 62%

the X5 drives more like a top saloon than a 4x4, ride is first class, power is awesome ( it's as fast as my 323i convertible ) towing is a doddle, you'd be pushed to find better.
